I stumbled across an article today on the Daily Mail online (link below), about a new company who are aiming to print 3D models of a foetus in the womb. The tile is aptly called Creepy or Cute, and I have to say – it’s creepy all the way for me! I know technology is advancing and 4D scans are now available, but a life-size replica of the child growing in your stomach? It’s hardly the real thing. All you have to do is wait a few months and voila!
The company were hoping to raise enough money to buy a 3D printer, but as yet demand for the product has not been high enough to meet the goal. I guess I’m not the only one who finds the whole thing bizarre.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking those who want to commemorate the experience. I know people who’ve had a cast of their baby bump, and one friend has it proudly displayed on her living room wall. There are many products available now; jewellery made of your babies hand/foot print, casts of the same. I just think that a 3D model is going a tad too far.
What do you think? Am I looking at this the wrong way – if I’d been given the opportunity when I was pregnant, would those pregnancy hormones have pushed me over the edge? I’m not convinced!
How about you, Laura – do you think it’s creepy or cute?
